Byron's Gasser Madness! ~

In 1967, "Big John" Mazmanian built one of the more
unique blown gassers. The chopped Austin became known as the
"Football". While NHRA quickly disallowed it from legal AA/GS
competition (it ran as a BB/Altered at NHRA meets), that didn't matter too
much since most of the racing at the time was either dedicated A/GS meets
run by the various tracks, or match racing. The "Football" was very
successful at both! When John went funnycar racing in 1968, the
Football was purchased and campaigned by KS Pittman until he later
replaced the body with that of an Opel GT. No one seems to know what
ever happened to that car.
